Corporate responsibility

Responsibility is a cross-cutting theme in our strategy. It guides our day-to-day operations and is particularly reflected in our procurement practices and in development projects carried out together with companies. In particular in projects related to the circular economy and travel, where economic, social and environmental responsibility are addressed in an integrated way.

Corporate responsibility has become a central element of business operations. It is increasingly shaped by legislation, the requirements of financial markets, and the expectations of business partners and customers. We support companies in understanding these requirements and in developing responsible business practices as part of the region’s vitality and long-term competitiveness.

Our carbon footprint

Our carbon footprint amounted to just over 27 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) in 2024. In comparison, the average carbon footprint of a person in Finland is approximately 7.7 tonnes of CO2e per year.

The majority of MikseiMikkeli’s emissions fall under Scope 2 and Scope 3 categories. These include the consumption of heating, electricity and water at the office, employees’ commuting, and business travel. All three scopes were included in the calculation in order to gain a comprehensive understanding of the organisation’s environmental impact, even though Scope 3 reporting was not required to obtain the Carbon footprint calculated label from the Chambers of Commerce.

Data for the calculation was collected from several sources. This included billing data, estimates of waste volumes, and a staff survey covering commuting and business travel. Particular attention was paid to identifying realistic and reasonable methods for estimating different types of consumption and emissions.

The carbon footprint provides a baseline for MikseiMikkeli’s corporate responsibility work. It supports cost-efficient decision making related to energy use, travel and procurement, and facilitates reporting and communication in development projects and partnerships.
