The building permit for the data center project planned in Mikkeli, Finland by Aurora Core Technology Oy, a Finnish subsidiary of 3 E Network Technology Group Limited (Nasdaq: MASK), has become legally binding, with no appeals filed during the public notification period. The project is one of several data center and energy-intensive investment projects currently under preparation in Mikkeli.
Aurora Core Technology announced in January that it is planning an artificial intelligence-focused data center in Mikkeli. The building permit that has now become legally binding covers the first phase of the project. While the overall strategic planning of the project is led by 3 E Network, its on-site implementation and execution are managed by the local partner, Orka Technologies Oy.
The legal confirmation of the building permit is a key step in advancing the project and enables the transition to the next preparation phases.
“Securing this permit represents a major leap forward for our European AI infrastructure strategy”, said Dr. Tingjun Yang, CEO of 3 E Network.
“It reflects our strong collaboration with Mikkeli authorities. We look forward to working with our local partner, Orka Technologies, to deliver sustainable, high-performance AI computing power to Europe on schedule.”
The project can now proceed to negotiations concerning the electricity grid connection, as well as to the supplier mapping and selection phase. The aim is to utilize local suppliers and service providers whenever possible.
“The legal validity of the building permit is an important milestone for the project. It enables the next steps, including the electricity grid connection agreement, progress in the supplier selection process, and the construction decision,” says Roope Rämänen, Chief Operating Officer of Orka Technologies Oy.
Mikkeli Development Miksei Ltd has established a supplier register for investment projects, enabling companies in the region to present their expertise and services to project developers. According to Orka Technologies Oy the project will use this supplier register to support supplier mapping.
“We want to ensure that companies in the region get an opportunity to participate in investment projects. The supplier register is a practical tool that helps connect companies with project developers,” says Jussi Heinimö, Director of Invest-in operations at Mikkeli Development Miksei Ltd.
