Baltic Circular Threads

The Baltic Circular Threads project addresses the challenge of youth unemployment in South Savo (Finland) and South Estonia by equipping young professionals with the entrepreneurial and sustainability skills needed in the modern textile and fashion industry. The project supports young adults (aged 18–29) who already have technical know-how in the field but lack experience in business and sustainable innovation.

Over the course of four training cycles, 96 participants (48 from Finland, 48 from Estonia) will take part in a 60-hour educational programme consisting of ten modules. The curriculum blends online learning, in-person sessions, workshops, simulations, and pop-up markets. The content covers sustainable fashion, circular economy principles, ethical design, marketing, finance, legislation, and business modeling — all tailored to promote responsible entrepreneurship and ecological awareness.

Participants gain not only valuable knowledge and skills but also access to professional networks, mentoring, and real-life business simulation opportunities. The project empowers them to find employment or start their own sustainable ventures in the textile sector.

The project is led by the Foundation Tartu Centre for Creative Industries in Estonia with partners Mikkeli Development Miksei Ltd and South Savo Vocational College (Esedu). Mikkeli Development Miksei is responsible for coordinating Finnish training events and providing business advisory services.
